Publishing and Content Editor
We are looking to build out our editorial team to help us ensure quality control on a variety of deliverables. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled editor of fiction, nonfiction, and content writing, and has a desire to work collaboratively.
This is a remote, freelance (1099) position, approximately 5–20 hours a week, that requires a response time of 24 hours or less.
Responsibilities:
- A super detailed editorial eye and the ability to catch typos or other egregious errors
- Extensive knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style, 18th edition, and AP Style
- Ability to review and assess project deliverables for style, grammar, and product specifications
- Experience and demonstrated ability to follow detailed style and process guides
- Experience using Microsoft Word’s Track Changes function as well as editing in Google Drive
A successful candidate will:
- Have a finely honed knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style, 18th edition, (and a passing knowledge of other style guides—chiefly the Associated Press Stylebook [AP]).
- Be able to work across multiple clients, learning their different style guides and standards.
- Be organized and confident. You are flexible, composed, and able to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
- Be tech savvy and comfortable interacting, training, and completing assignments in a remote environment (Google Drive, Slack, Dropbox, etc.).
- Be able to follow detailed process documents.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree a relevant field of study or equivalent work experience
- 3+ years of editing experience
- 2+ years in a similar role
- Mastery of the English language and The Chicago Manual of Style, 18th edition, (and a passing knowledge of other style guides)
