May 4, 2010 – Elite Editing has partnered with the online authors’ community BookRix to sponsor and judge the Great First Lines Mini Contest, a short-short writing competition scheduled to run until May 21.
In Elite Editing’s sponsored contest for BookRix, participants are invited to write a compelling first sentence to a story. Elite Editing and BookRix editors will choose the winner based on how engaging the sentence is, looking for powerful and attention-grabbing opening lines.
“We’re very excited about the partnership,” says Jennifer Rotner, owner of Elite Editing. “It’s a good way to reach out to the writing community and connect to authors and storytellers in today’s competitive marketplace. BookRix offers a powerful forum for sharing ideas and is a supportive environment in which to bolster new talent in the publishing industry.”
The first place prize is a $100 Amazon gift card and the second place prize is 1,000 words edited for free, courtesy of Elite Editing.
To inspire and encourage entrants in the contest, Elite Editing has compiled a list of favorite opening lines from classic and contemporary literature, which can be found at Top 25 Best First Book Lines.
Elite Editing is deeply involved with the BookRix authors’ community and moderates a popular forum on the BookRix site, overseeing an ongoing conversation between proofreaders, editors, and writers.
